Hannover. Deutsche Messe AG has won another Platinum Partner for its 5G Smart Venue in Hanover with Giesecke+Devrient. As part of the strategic transformation of the exhibition grounds into a highly innovative multifunctional campus that will be equipped with the new, super-fast generation in mobile communications 5G, the partnership, as part of a proof of concept, will present innovative device and SIM/eSIM management within the 5G infrastructure.

The cooperation between both companies includes the deployment of security and authentication solutions for the Smart Venue by Giesecke+Devrient. This creates an important prerequisite for secure lifecycle management of devices and systems while they are within the dedicated network of Deutsche Messe. Additionally, Giesecke+Devrient and Deutsche Messe intend to provide “out of the box consulting kits” for easy onboarding of enterprises.

“Device and SIM/eSIM management is an important and innovative access technology to the various 5G networks on our exhibition site and offers numerous advantages compared to conventional SIM cards. This includes less required space, especially for IoT devices, longer lifetime, reduced downtime and, most importantly, greater flexibility in choosing and switching network providers. The partnership with Giesecke+Devrient marks an important milestone in the future use of our exhibition site for 5G pilot projects,” says Marcus Eibach, Senior Vice President at Deutsche Messe AG.

Sharath Muddaiah, Director Strategic Solutions & Business Development at Giesecke+Devrient explains: “Initiatives such as Deutsche Messe’s 5G Smart Venue are crucial to enable enterprises to conduct test scenarios and field trials for their 5G product development. This is critical to their digitalization activities.  We are proud and happy to cooperate with Deutsche Messe and its partners like Deutsche Telekom and Siemens to ensure secure lifecycle management of devices within the Smart Venue.” Sharath Muddaiah will also be speaker at this year’s Mobile World Congress, where Deutsche Messe and Giesecke+Devrient will announce more information.

The partnership lays an important foundation for a wide range of 5G use cases that can be demonstrated at the Hannover exhibition site in the future. In particular for the cluster Smart Mobility with mobile communication to and between vehicles, emergency scenarios in traffic control or drone applications in the logistics sector. SMEV AG is one of the first customers that will use the 5G Smart Venue for test scenarios of emergency vehicles in the future. In addition to Giesecke+Devrient, Deutsche Telekom AG and Siemens AG are platinum partners of 5G Smart Venue. Cooperations with other platinum partners are currently being negotiated.

The use of eSIM in public and private 5G networks is also a topic at this year’s Mobile World Congress, hosted by GSMA. During this digital event, Deutsche Messe and Giesecke+Devrient will be giving detailed information to there partnership on June 29, 2021 including potential application scenarios.
